In-person & POS payments

Card-present is the cheapest way to get paid, when it is set up right. Terminals, smart POS, and tap-to-pay, programmed to your account.

Here is a fact most processors will never volunteer: taking a card in person is the cheapest transaction in all of payments. A chip read or a tap proves the card is physically present, the networks treat that as low-risk, and they reward it with the lowest interchange there is. The catch is that “set up right” does a lot of work in that sentence, and a sloppy setup quietly throws the advantage away.

1The advantage

Why card-present wins on cost

The same customer paying the same amount costs you wildly different rates depending on how the card is captured. Dipped or tapped is cheapest. Hand-keyed is a tier higher. Online is higher still, plus extra service fees. The picture:

Relative cost by acceptance method. Same card, same sale, very different interchange.

The single highest-leverage habit

Dip or tap instead of keying. A chip read qualifies for a lower interchange tier than a hand-entered number on every single eligible sale. Over a year, that discipline alone is real money.
2The hardware

Devices that arrive ready to ring

Every device we ship is pre-programmed to your account, so you plug it in and take a payment, no call to a help desk, no configuration weekend. Pick what fits how you actually sell.

3For service businesses

Tips, speed, and funding that fit the floor

Restaurants, salons, and bars do not process like a retail counter. The setup has to respect tips and speed, or your effective rate balloons and your line backs up.

  • Tip handling done right: tip prompts and adjustments configured so high transaction counts do not silently inflate your fees.
  • Fast hardware: chip and tap devices that keep the counter moving at the dinner rush.
  • Dependable funding: predictable next-day deposits so cash flow and payroll stay smooth.
  • Quick re-batch: settle correctly and on time so transactions do not downgrade to a pricier tier.
4More than one store

Multi-location, one clear picture

Running several locations should not mean several mystery statements. One partner, one consolidated view, and clean per-location reporting so you can actually see where the money and the fees are going.

The bottom line

  • Card-present (chip/tap) qualifies for the lowest interchange in payments.
  • Keying by hand costs more; online costs more still, so capture method matters on every sale.
  • Every device ships pre-programmed to your account, ready to plug in.
  • Tips, speed, and next-day funding are configured for real service businesses.
  • Multi-location merchants get one partner and clean consolidated reporting.

Common questions

Yes. A chip-read or tapped card qualifies for the lowest interchange tiers in payments, because a physically present card is far less risky than a card-not-present transaction. Properly set up, card-present acceptance is the cheapest way to get paid.
